Scrub – sniff out missing info from contacts

Today we take a look at Scrub which is a small Windows Mobile app to detect missing information from your Contacts such as email addresses, mobile phone numbers, date of birth etc. It scans all the contacts on your device, and group them by the type of information missing.

Here is the list of info that the app can detect :

1. Category
2. Photo
3. Email Address
4. Mobile Number
5. Home Number
6. Work Number
7. Home Address
8. Company Name
9. Birthday

Once you launch the app , you have to hit scrub for the app to do its magic. I don’t see the reason why there is a need to launch the app and press the button for the app to run. Since there are no menu option or any other configuration options, it would be great to see the app remove the extra step of clicking the Scrub button. Once you hit scrub it will throw a warning message telling you it might take a while to do the task and then the app displays details about the missing info. You can drill down each info and directly lauch the contact editor to add the missing info.

I wouldn’t call it a must have app for Windows Mobile but it does what it claims to do and does it very effectively. It a really small app and its free so I don’t see the harm in giving it a shot. Here is a small video of the app in action :

Pros :

• Easily find out which info is missing from contacts
• Free
• Does not hog resources

Cons :

• Not feature rich ( see below )

Possible Improvements :

• One way to make this a must have app is giving the user an option to send an email ( if email-id is present ) or SMS/MMS ( if mobile number is present ) asking the Contact to fill in the missing info and sending it back to the user.
• And if that received info can be imported in to the contact directly , I wouldn’t mind paying for the app.

   Scrub is very effective and would love to see the suggestions in this review above implemented! Also how about merging similar/identical contacts? Or the ability to delete contacts?
