Call Emergency! 1.0 – easy access to emergency numbers across the world on Windows Mobile
Today we take a look at Call Emergency!, its a simple windows mobile app that provides the user with a complete list of emergency numbers (police, fire, ambulance) for all major countries.
The mobile division of Activants Pte Ltd, a.k.a Mobivants are the people behind this app, which is available via the Marketplace. It is a simple app that does what it says, no fancy shmancy stuff.
Installation is pretty straightforward, you will need to have the latest version of .Net CF. You can launch the app via the icon in the start menu. The free app is monetized by in-app advertisement which is not very intrusive and is placed in the header of the app.
Once you run the app, you are presented with a scrollable list of counties with their flags and clicking on them will , give you the number to dial for emergency services like Police, Fire Department and Ambulance. Clicking of the icon of either of those services will bring up a pop-up message asking if you want to dial that number, this enables you to dial that number from within the app, which is a nice touch. You can search for other country’s emergency numbers by typing the country’s name in the search box. The developer also claims that the application automatically detects the country you are in and shows that country’s emergency number. ( I couldn’t test it as I was running this on an emulator ). Also there seems to be some unused space in the lower portion of the app, from the developers screenshot it looks like the automatically detected country name pops up there.
This not a must have app , but if you travel a lot and if trouble always seems to find you you might want to try this app and since its FREE, why don’t you try it. It could prevent data charges when you are stuck overseas and need to google the number for emergency services coz the app does not require data connection to work.
